Hydrogen has the highest energy density per unit mass. When it is used, the only waste product is pure water. In the future, it should take over the role of natural gas in the energy and chemical industries.
Alternative fuels from gas
Reducing CO2
Technological know-how
We have launched the first project aimed at the production and use of green hydrogen in our plants. This is the first step on the road to sustainable, emission-free energy. We are working with our partners to secure the supply of hydrogen from a variety of sources to guarantee a high level of comfort for our customers.
Own production of green hydrogen, whether for transport, households or industry. From 2025 onwards, securing the supply of a natural gas mix with an increasing proportion of hydrogen, followed by a switch to pure hydrogen.
Adapting the natural gas distribution system for hydrogen distribution.
Developing underground hydrogen storage as a renewable energy storage facility.

The project focuses on securing a supply of 290 GWh per day of green hydrogen from North Africa to central Germany. The 3,400 km route will run partly in a new pipeline and partly in an existing network of transit pipelines. Our aim is to diversify energy sources.
The project focuses on securing the supply of green hydrogen from western Ukraine at a rate of 144 GWh per day to central Germany. We are completing a 55 MW wind farm in western Ukraine. This energy will be used to produce green hydrogen. Our goal is to adapt the current transit pipelines for the transport of hydrogen.
The project is aimed not only at transporting green hydrogen from Ukraine and the North Sea, but also at storing it. Participation in this project will help to further diversify energy sources. Our aim is to acquire the necessary know-how regarding the storage of hydrogen in underground structures, which is important for balancing consumption between summer and winter.
